6 Tips to Help Your Child Achieve His/Her Dream of Becoming a Cricketer

Is your kid cricket-obsessed? Does he have pictures of cricketers in his room? Does she twirl her arm like Shane Warne every time she moves from one room to another? Does he always pretend to be playing imaginary shots? Does she often practice the death-glare and slick sledging every time she bowls a bouncer?

When your child loves the game, it’s up to you to check out his/her potential in the game. You need to give every opportunity to learn and grow so that they have every chance to fulfill their dream of becoming a cricketer.

Here are 6 ways to encourage them to do well in the sport.

  1. Give Them the Right-sized Equipment

The right equipment can make the difference between them growing in the game and losing interest. We’ve all seen kids holding bats that are nearly as tall as them. There’s no way they can succeed if their equipment is a few sizes too big.

  1. Help Them Develop the Correct Techniques

Developing the right technique at a young age will serve them well for a long time. It builds the the perfect foundation for them to take off from. Correct techniques for batting can include batting stance, batting grip, and foot movements. For bowling, it can include various ways of gripping the ball for inswing, outswing, legspin, offspin, etc., the runup, the bowling action, and the follow-through.

  1. Get Them to a Cricket Camp

Cricket camps are wonderful places for all-round development. Your kids can learn new aspects of the game, practise to their heart’s content, and get their competitive juices going. Camps also help them assess where they stand in comparison to their peers. Perhaps the best ones going now are the cricket camps conducted by Australian Sports Camps.

  1. Find Local Cricket Clubs for Them to Join

There’s nothing like a bit of competition to push your kids up to another level. Australia has a number of cricket clubs in just about every town and city. In fact most of the top players who’ve gone on to play for Australia have credited the ultra competitive club cricket scene for their sporting development.

  1. Play With Your Kids a Lot

There’s nothing like a bit of game time at home to hone your kids skills. First off, it will give them a massive boost of encouragement to know that their parent is invested in their game, and that they want them to get better. Second, practise makes perfect. So, get onto youtube, check out some drills and create a practise session for your young ones.

  1. Watch Cricket With Them

Kids can learn a lot just by watching their heroes play. The best thing would be to take to watch live games. The atmosphere, the fun, the cheering will all motivate them to get onto the big stage themselves. If you can’t go to live games, watching cricket on TV is good enough too.

Remember, dreams can true. So do things right, and you never know what the future will hold for your child.
